Jeffery’s Greenhouses Inc. is a grower and wholesale distributor of bedding, tropical, and other greenhouse crops, with locations in St. Catharines and Jordan Station.
We are seeking an experienced Greenhouse Grower Supervisor to join our Jordan Station team. This hands-on supervisory role combines commercial greenhouse growing with the leadership and coordination of a greenhouse growing team.
Working closely with the Head Grower, Production Manager, and Greenhouse Management, the Grower Supervisor coordinates daily growing activities, labour assignments, crop care, and team priorities while supporting crop quality, productivity, and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor crop development, quality, irrigation, nutrition, pests, disease, and overall crop health.
- Implement established crop-management programs and communicate concerns to the Head Grower.
- Coordinate growing activities including transplanting, spacing, pruning, pinching, cleaning, and crop movement.
- Apply biological controls, pesticides, and growth regulators as required.
- Schedule and supervise crop rotation and maintain accurate crop records.
- Provide daily direction, work assignments, training, and coaching to the growing team.
- Monitor productivity, quality, attendance, and adherence to established procedures.
- Adjust labour and priorities as crop and operational requirements change.
- Work in partnership with the Production Manager to coordinate growing and labour activities.
- Support planning, identify workflow improvements, and perform hands-on growing duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- 2–3 years of commercial greenhouse growing experience, preferably with bedding, tropical plants or similar crops.
- Previous leadership, training, or supervisory experience.
- Post-secondary education in Horticulture, Agriculture, or a related field is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of crop management, irrigation, nutrition, pest and disease control, and crop production.
- Pesticide Safety Certificate or ability to obtain one.
- Experience with biological pest control is an asset.
- Strong organization, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage changing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Microsoft Office skills, particularly Word and Excel.
- Spanish language skills are an asset.
Position Requirements
- Full availability required; not intended for students seeking part-time or seasonal employment.
- Reliable transportation to Jordan Station is required; public transit is not available.
- Weekend, holiday, and additional hours will be required during peak production periods.
- Work is performed in a greenhouse environment with exposure to varying temperatures, heat, humidity, moisture, plants, soil, and equipment.
- This position involves extended periods of standing and walking, repetitive crop-related tasks, light to moderate lifting, manual plant handling, and operation of greenhouse equipment.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: The anticipated hourly wage for this position is $21.00–$30.00 per hour. The final rate offered will reflect the successful candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, and overall suitability for the role.
- Benefits are available after six months for full-time employees.
